Virginia race dominate ad wars4/15/2023 ![]() ![]() The start time is slated for 5 p.m.RICHMOND, Va. Next up for the H2Okies is a trip to Charlottesville to take on in-state and ACC rival Virginia on Wednesday Oct. Sophomores Sarah Milton, Natalie West and freshman Cara Murnan went one-two-three in the one-meter event, while in the three-meter dive, West captured second place with a score of 279.95. McDonald's 1-meter dive broke the War Memorial Pool record, that he set in 2007. On the men’s side, junior Mikey McDonald captured wins in the 1- and 3-meter events with scores of 383.95 and 377.10, respectively. The H2Okie divers were as impressive as the swimmers in the opening meet. The men’s 50 free event was won by deToll, who crossed the line in 20.90, while in the women’s 200 fly, Newell garnered first place with a time of 2:04.71. Meanwhile, Huss placed first for Tech touching in at 57.33. Freshman Katie Priess took home first with a time of 1:04.92. The H2Okies swept the 100 breast event in men’s and women’s action. Shapiro swam to a 57:15 finish, while on the men’s side, Higgins placed first with a time of 50.04. In women’s 100 back action, junior Sara Shapiro placed first for Tech to claim nine more points for the H2Okies. Smith, who previously set the mark in 2005 with a time of 2:04.62 in 2005, finished the race in 2:03.91 this afternoon to win the event. The senior finished the race in 1:50.31, and later in the meet, broke the 200 IM War Memorial Pool record. The freshman touched in with a time of 9:41.35 to claim three points for Tech.įor the H2Okie women, Smith captured the 200 free crown at the opening meet. Freshman Phillip LaRosa made his first appearance for the H2Okies, garnering a third place showing in the 1000 free event. Junior Griffin Lutterbein scored four points for the H2Okies, placing second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:30.97. The former touched in with a time of 10:08.09, while the latter crossed the line in 10:19.02. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the 1000 women’s free, sophomores Lauren Ritter and Emily Tipton took first and third place in the event, respectively. The team of freshman Charlie Higgins, junior Jonathan Huss, senior Ian deToll and sophomore Stephen Hawkins broke last season’s record by. Meanwhile, the Tech men touched in with a time of 1:30.69. For the women, the team of senior Jordan McHorney, junior Jessica Earl, senior Megan Newell and senior Sara Smith captured a first place finish with a time of 1:42.10, edging the previous mark set last season by 1.49 seconds. To open the meet, the Hokies posted new War Memorial Pool records in the 200 medley relay in both the men’s and women’s competition.
